Professional Development
MTWP Teacher Consultants are practicing teachers who use their skill and knowledge every day in their own classrooms. Whether they are kindergarten teachers introducing composing and writing to their students or middle school teachers helping students learn how to argue or high school teachers helping advanced students with their college admissions essays, their experience brings confidence to the PD session that the strategies or ideas presented are realistic and successful.
MTWP offers professional development in a wide variety of formats ranging from the one-day Fall Writing Conference or Saturday Seminar Series for individual professional development to extended school-based programming. Individual teachers can also access the virtual professional development archived at MTSU’s Center for Educational Media.
MTWP Teacher Consultants also work with schools and districts in the mid-state area at both the elementary and secondary levels. We provide full and half-day/early release workshops as well as multi-day workshops on writing instruction. MTWP can also arrange long-term mentoring of teachers. Our goal is to support teacher growth through collaboration with the school or district: rather than bringing a boxed or one-size fits all presentation, MTWP prefers to collaborate with the school or district in order to best meet the needs of the staff.
